some thoughts about the work

"Shades of Hue" is about types. The types we allocate to others and self. Identity via exclusion. eg; suit, ferrel, govie, yobbo, bike, alternate, westie, rural, straight, red neck, hippy, surfie........the list goes on. I deliberately remain detained within the razor wire of the Australian vernacular in an effort to highlight identity through difference. Each type takes a position within the spectrum, making claims to hue. Shades of hue arise through interaction and familiarity. The intersections remain fluid, supporting a floating horizon of acceptability. In the rhetoric of governance black is white and white is black. Shades of hue support indoctrinative perspectives shifting horizons to favour a point of view. Slipages of meaning in words are carefully crafted to blind or colour. The photograph is now positioned to support a lie rather than to a prove a truth. Painting is true in its colours, intent remains vital to expression.
